Hope you this helps you to find your favorite crafting store! Cosplay is a super fun hobby, but finding the right materials can be clearly a bit challenging. Just keep in mind that cosplay is not about creating a perfect costume! It’s absolutely fine to start small, to buy costumes or just do a casual character. My very first projects were super simple as well and I mostly worked with paper mache and expanding foam. Over the years I only gathered more tools and learned to work with new materials. It’s a journey and failing, learning and getting better is also incredible fun!
