When playing Horizon Zero Dawn I instantly fell in love in Aloy and her Shadow Stalwart Heavy armor set. I absolutely love the game, it’s style, the characters and it’s world. In addition, Aloy has a ton of amazing armor sets, but iconic Carja set instantly convinced me. However, I instantly new that this project wouldn’t be easy!
This armor set consist of hundreds tiny plates which all had individual shapes and sizes. After considering plenty of different techniques, my husband Benni begun 3D sculpting every single piece in Fusion 360. In addition, his brother Jakob (@blackmaskedfox) created a fully functional and moving Sharpshot Bow that looked like straight out of the game. I meanwhile was busy styling the wig, sewing the outfit and finding a way to attach almost 300 armor scales onto the costume. In total we worked 4 months on Aloy and her Shadow Stalwart Armor. Not sure how we made it, but we did! SO MANY PIECES! We also documented the entire process in a playlist on YouTube. At the end, we learned so many new skills by building this massive armor set and those will definitely be used in the projects to come!
Please check out our 3D Printing Book if you want to learn those skills as well!
