Yelan – Genshin Impact

After creating my Beidou cosplay in 2022, the devs of Genshin Impact, Hoyoverse, asked me to bring Yelan to life as well! Genshin Impact is a fun open world game with tons of gorgeous characters. The mysterious and elegant archer Yelan is just one of my favorites! Her design is incredibly complicated as she has tons of details and her outfit is asymmetrical – a nightmare for every cosplay crafter! In addition I’m not very confident with my sewing skills! So, with 20 years of cosplay experience, this costume was my most challenging project so far!

In total I’ve worked 6 weeks on the whole costume! It was a very intense project since every part of Yelan’s design required a lot of engineering and problem solving. Each arm and each leg looked different and even the dress looked completely different on both sides. At the end I used around 20 different fabrics for the whole costume. At least I got some help though! My amazing wig was styled by @krystl_cosplay and Benni’s brother @blackmaskedfox helped us with the 3D files for the Aqua Simulacra bow and the costume. Finally Benni and his brother printed, assembled and painted the weapon.

Last but not least we also found an incredible location for the photoshoot. The Monte Palace Tropical Garden on Madeira!

Overall the costume was incredible though and mentally draining. I’m sure you’ll get the idea if you’ll watch the making of video on my Youtube channel. I’m just as proud as I was exhausted by this project though. I think Yelan turned out amazing and I cannot wait for the next Genshin Impact cosplay!
